Informal caregivers reduce their paid work hours an average of 41% and make other career sacrifices in the form of passed up promotions, leaves of absence, and early retirement. Those who return to work after their caregiving end often wind up in jobs with less pay and benefits than their previous jobs. Caregiving is not only emotionally draining, but often adds up to a large economic sacrifice.
